“We evaluated and tested the hardware and software features of several well-known brands of ruggedized computers. None of the other brands of ruggedized computers passed the test without a hiccup except Getac’s F110.”

Challenge

CMH is located in northern Peru, and has a magnesium mine at an altitude of 2,000 meters and a total depth of 1.5 km. Frontline miners must work in 30°C to 40°C heat and 95% humidity with lots of dust. Front-line miners need to rely on written instructions on paper to know the direction and depth of excavations, and also to record on paper the data obtained from their work. However, this type of mining in high temperature and high humidity conditions often causes problems that not only make it difficult to preserve conventional paper, but can also easily affect the miner’s progress, sometimes resulting in poor decision making. Every mistake made in excavation will result in unnecessary costs, which causes a loss of productivity and efficiency.

In addition, conventional paper is not good at protecting confidentiality, and it is easy to leak important confidential information such as extraction data. In order to effectively manage the workflow and implement the paperless operation, CMH began implementing a fully ruggedized tablet solution.

Solution

CMH discovered Getac’s fully ruggedized tablet at an industry conference and began to study and assess the possibility of integrating a fully ruggedized tablet into the extraction field. CMH selected 4 of the leading global brands in ruggedized computers, eliminating those that were too large and too heavy. Software and hardware effectiveness tests were conducted on its products; only Getac passed its rigorous tests.

Getac’s fully ruggedized F110 tablet has a number of features that make it ideally suited for the challenging environment CMH miners face every day. It comes with an 11.6″ (29.5 cm) screen that can zoom in and out and weighs only 1.39 kg. Not only is it lightweight and portable, but it also allows front-line miners to accurately determine the direction of excavations, reducing the possibility of errors and subsequent mining costs.

The Getac F110 is IP65 and MIL-STD-810G certified and is drop, shock, dust and water resistant. Equipped with patented LumiBond 2.0 display technology, it can operate normally in full sunlight. The tablet provides a clear screen image, both in a dimly lit mine shaft and in bright sunlight, thus avoiding any interruption of work. The Getac F110 comes with a new generation Intel processor offering high-speed computing power to ensure complete capture of information and data on the computer after mineral collection. The information is sent to the central database via Wi-Fi.

Benefit

In order to improve performance and reduce costs, today’s mining industry has an increasing demand for technology. This is reflected in the increasing popularity of Getac’s fully ruggedized products and solutions. Getac’s fully ruggedized F110 tablet accompanied with high-end software provides benefits. significant for topographic surveys.

In the past, miners had to complete information gathering using conventional documents and paperwork, which was complicated. Information was easily lost and errors were common. Once the Getac F110 replaced conventional paperwork, there was a marked improvement in efficiency. Previously, any search for information involved leafing through huge stacks of paper documents, which was time-consuming and laborious. Today, it is possible to perform a search on the computer, thereby saving time and improving work efficiency.
